He might have been a stranger to many fans of Degrassi new series. But something more alarming than this is the fact that actor Neil Hope’s death confirmation reached his family and dear ones after five long years.
It was only a few weeks ago that his former girlfriend, Christina Boulard revealed the news that Hope had died in 2007, almost half a decade ago!
Christina also said that the actor’s family had somewhat presumed him to be dead in 2003, when he first went missing, but they weren’t confirmed about it until Hamilton Police brought the saddening news.
She didn’t go into detail about his death, but believed that Hope was not the kind of person who would cut his veins and commit a sucide. Boulard was upset with the ineffectualness of the cops, who could neither shed light on the whereabouts of the Degrassi star nor could assure of his death for all those years.
It is not that Hope was a minor star in the show, for he had a considerable role to play in 1980s series as Derek “Wheels” Wheeler. You can download those installments of Degrassi if you want to catch some of his acts as Wheels.
Besides the character of a troubled alcoholic guy, as Wheels, the actor also played a few other characters in the previous series of the Canadian franchise.
In ‘The Kids of Degrassi Street’, he was seen playing Griff, followed with an experiment with ‘Wheels’ on Degrassi Junior High. That show ran from 1987 to 1991, and made the character a household name not just in Canada, but in many parts of the world as well.
The news of his death was heartbreaking though, it should have reached his family much earlier.
At least it could have put an end to the painstaking anticipation of their son’s arrival for all those years.
